Old together

sorenbarrett

When we were young

We held each other so tight and talked through the night

You yelled at the top of your voice

One day we will grow old together”

Time ran on, I was always gone

As we held hands

You softly said

One day we will grow old together”

Months and years ran off the clock, we hardly talk

With a tentative touch

You whispered

One day we will grow old together”

Today we are old, your touch so cold

You withdraw

Not a word is said

We grew old together

Is that what I have to look forward to.

    • sorenbarrett

Thanks for the review. Don't know it depends on you and whoever. Appreciate the comment.

I didn't believe you had a misery poem in you, Soren. Can you make the next one slightly more cheerful?

      • sorenbarrett

Thank you Dave for the review. The world is a balance and where there is misery there is joy to match it. We want only the good but to appreciate it there needs to be the bad.

Ok Think you have something there.

Mary and I are in our mid seventies and just cannot share our love for each other any stronger, it gets stronger every moment of our lives.

Thanks Andy so glad that everything is fine for you and yours, unfortunately not so for many others. However, every cloud has a silver lining.

I have been married for a long time and that holding hands and talking never gets old, just time. Thanks for writing this, I enjoyed reading it!

            • sorenbarrett

Thank you Christina for the review. Yes that is the way we wish it would be. Looking at the figures with marriages lasting on an average two years and not to say how many that don't marry breaking up without any figures for that it seems dismal for most.

              'of Touch'
there's a symbiotic feel to my feeble scribble
and your wonderful words, dear cherished Poet
              a sobering, yet emotive read
a tender inking of that juxtaposition
              in every love
              tis, why
              only the brave, dare
              to share their hearts
