Just where has it gone from this world?
There was a time when it was there,
It was the foremost thing that we had.
We were brought up to use it all the time
But it is no longer there anymore.
There are those that demand it,
Feeling that they should be treated with it,
But that is not the way it works.
Respect is that special gift now missing,
Now missing from our lives,
But is can be brought back within us.
Respect is there for those who deserve it,
Not for those who demand it.

I could not agree more with the sentiments you have posted today .. however, since values have changed considerably as you have already outlined, I additionally worry that if such values are not taught in the first place, then how on earth can they be further passed on down the line ... tis very sad indeed .............. Neville
True words Neville, who is going to teach such values if they are not taught in the first place.

'Do you know who I am?' said a self-important one.
'Nope, I replied, so you can't be anyone of any importance If I've never heard of ya!'
Good words Orchi, thank you.

Thanks Gold. One actually said this in person to someone, somewhere. I forgot who it was.
Please define your terms, Andy. If you mean respect for Authority, then forget that. If you mean respect in ordinary human intercourse, then it most certainly has become more casual...
Good you bring this up every now and again - worth constant review.
Authority has no respect at all as it flouts its own laws. Ordinary people deserve respect and should be shown respect as long as they do as well.
Andy
Respect from Authority? Keep up the good work, Andy.
Respect is there for those who deserve it and I have taught it to my children. I would have to say as decent people they inherently respect those who are respectable folks....Christina
True words Christina, so glad you have taught your children as I have mine.
Thank you.

Here here, such a great message. Maybe that is why it has shrunk. Looking at today's population there are so few that deserve it.
Thank you soren, much appreciated.

When I was a child many moons ago, I was not only taught respect by my parents and teachers in school, but I saw it demonstrated by the adults in my life. Today I see adults who wear their disrespect for others like a badge of honor, as if this is acceptable behavior. I do however see glimmers of hope in many of our young people, who demonstrate compassion and acceptance, and hopefully they pass it on. You are absolutely right, it can be brought back. A great write my friend!
Most kind Bella, it is so good when occasionally the young show respect for their elders.
