Romance in 2023.

xanaxeli

Lately i've been asked alot:

"What is romance?"

Most people say that, romance is doing something big and meaningful to those you care about.

In my head, romance is the way you look at eachother in complete awe, even when no words are being spoken.

Romance is that burning desire to tell that specific person all about your day. Because you know they will listen to every word and understand how you feel.

Romance is in those late night calls, when you are both fighting the urge to sleep, but both of you refuse to hang up.

Romance is in the air, when you have been crying the entire day, but as soon as you see them. That sadness you felt is instantly gone and replaced with laughter and genuine smiles.

So in conclusion, i don't think anyone has the answer to this question:

"What is romance?"

This is how i see it, as a hopeless romantic living in 2023.

It's not just about grand gestures or extravagant displays of affection, but it's the little moments of intimacy and connection that make all the difference. The author's perspective on romance is refreshing and relatable, and it reminds us that love is all about the small things that we do for each other every day. The poem shows us that romance is not just a thing of the past, but it's alive and well in the present, and it's something that we can all strive for in our own relationships.

I overheard a conversation between a few of my coworkers and their perspective on romance was "grand gestures or extravagant displays of affection." It warms my heart hearing these words from you, thank you 💜

I am definitely not knocking your piece and as a statement it rings pretty true (Although I'd like to know your profession, since so many have been asking you to define romance). But I'm sure you would agree that these intimate moments are better kept private and enjoyed exclusively rather than bleeding out in poetic verse when actually in the relationship.

        Thank you for you honesty!💜
My "real profession" is being a kindergarten teacher, but currently i work with young adults who are struggling to survive day by day. So i get asked some pretty interesting questions, for example "what is romance? / Is romance dying? / is love just an illusion? / have u ever been in love?" I agree with you, that these intimate moments are better kept private. So i used examples thats are special to me, but i felt like sharing! Thank for your comment.

Good for you - keep that private. Focus outward at the world and attempt to make sense of it, then romance/love become the natural supplements to be explored privately.

Please enjoy your stay at MPS. Seems no advice needed to encourage you to respond to commentary on your own pieces and on others work. I hope you stick around.....
