Commonwealth Considerations

orchidee

On seeing the annual Commonwealth Day Service on TV

It's always the second Monday in March in the UK

Vibrant and bright, many nationalities

King Charles III giving an address from the pulpit

In Westminster Abbey (UK)

A crowing moment (pun intended?)

Was the Recessional Hymn (last hymn)

And a procession out of church

With all the Commonwealth flags

To the hymn and tune

'Crown Him with many crowns'

Suitable for our Lord Jesus

The King of Kings and Lord of Lords

A sort of 'going-forth' showed symbolically

Patriotism too, but not just that

The flags as banners

Of nations going out into the world

To share justice, peace, equality - love

A pipe dream? Or 'if only it were so.....'?

And 'Give peace a chance'

Let's hope so - and we can pray so.....

Lots of colonial past comes flooding forth. This generation can overcome that past with forgiveness and understanding, but man it's a long hard slog. We are not there yet.

What a wonderful annual event Orchi, wish we has something similar here in the states, we could sure use some togetherness right now, even if only symbolic. Perhaps one day it will become a reality. Thank you for hope!
