SATURN - PAPA KRONOS CANNIBAL

Natalie Gladmir

I neglect human pain, misfortune and despair
And brazenly throw it, without pity, in the trash.
There will be found excuses for my cruel affairs.
I suppress riots, rot the rebels, turn them to ash,
It happens, crush will expressions with my foot.
And how many people have I already trampled
& shut up all the indignant mouths for my good!
Death toll...hm... I don't care about such a thing.
Eventually, I swallowed five of my own offspring.
Call me a beastly cutthroat amid the other gods,
Chains of unfreedom were not invented in vain.
I punish mortals fleeing from shackles and rods,
Keeping the course to the nations' dooming rein.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Allegorical trolling of some statesmen. Current politicians often copy the dictatorial habits of the gods of ancient mythology, but, be that as it may, justice and democracy must prevail in modern society.

I do see multiple examples of how politicians behave like this, like Greek gods. Engaging, I enjoyed reading it.

Such statesmen have no right to hold power. The people impeach them. So do I.
