a teenage class

H. Jordan

Here I sit

My heart is leaking, overflowing

I've never known a feeling like this

There’s a frustrating pit of unknown in my stomach

And as I learn about you

The feeling grows

You’re a good person

Your kind and considerate and patient

You're well-rounded and funny and ambitious

I'm a teenage girl with a teenage crush

Obsessing over magazines and online quizzes to solve the mystery of your mind

Your feelings

Listen to the beat of an unsteady heart

As I work to figure out the complexities of the world

I hate not knowing

Picking at flowers until I come up with a definite answer

Moreover, I cannot accept the rejection

If these emotions don’t have a partner how could I go

How could I see you

How could I talk to you

The stakes are high

So I wait wait wait wait

For you to make a move

Whether it be for or against me.
