Denial

Aya Kadid

I refuse to believe that you’re actually gone,

But my recent emojis aren’t red roses and hearts anymore

I no longer sleep and wake up to “good night” and “good morning” texts from you

I don’t wait for the weekend to come to see you anymore

And I no longer open my phone to notifications from you.

But you can’t actually be gone

Because I still talk to you all day long in my head

I still remember you every time I see the moon

You’re still the last person I think of every time I go to bed

And I’d still be with my friends but only want to be with you.
