Singing In Harmony.

Goldfinch60

There they stand,

The Barbershop Chorus,

Singing in such a delightful way.

Four groups of singers singing,

The trebles singing so high

With their trousers pulled up,

Pulled up so tight

So that they can reach those high notes.

Then there are the lead singers,

They have the tune of the music,

Thinking that they are to bosses,

But they have the easy part

In singing the melody.

Then there are the low men

Singing the bass line,

And holding up the rest of the choir.

And then there are the baritones,

The most skilled of all the singers,

As they sing the notes of the music

That the other singers do not want.

Uh oh, I see Orchi hiding in the shadows ready to come out and steal the show.

    • Goldfinch60

He was banned and told to go and sing with the bagpipes far away, the further away the better.
      LOL

Well, he'll steal the show somewhere. And as long as he can be in the spotlight, he'll be happy. That's the important thing. 😁

          vividly descriptive, Andy
reminds me of my school choir days
we used to visit old people's homes and perform
initially only joined to skip classes
          due to practices and performances
but I gained some nice memories as well
(and also i'm a sucker for chamber music)

            Thank you Mek.

I enjoy so many types of music and have two sayings about it:

"So much music, so little time."

"The more I get to know about music the more ignorant I realise that I am."

This one is special for me. My dad loved to sing, and in his 60's, belonged to the SPEBSQSA, "The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America". I remember attending competitions which were so much fun and he would just light up. Your poem brings back many wonderful memories. So glad that you had the experience of singing in a quartet, thank you for sharing the experience.

Thank you for your words Bella and telling me of the memories of your father's singing.

I too sang in competitions with the barbershop chorus that I was in.
I remember one time when a Canadian Barbershop Chorus came over to entertain during the weekend of the competition. At one time they held a demonstration about their rehearsing and sang excerpts from a new song they were going to sing. At the end of the demonstration one of our crowd asked them to sing it for us, they started singing and we ended up with a room full of men with tears in their eyes. It is what music can do to us.
