for my maiden fair

queer-with-a-pen

i’ll love you like this

in front of the whole

damn world

and i shall wear your

favor into battle, when

what i really want is

to hold your hand

but, oh, maiden fair of mine,

you tuck those daisies and

forget-me-nots so gently

into the chinks of my armor

that it’s almost the same

i’ll turn to wave just one

more time as we walk away,

until i can’t see you anymore

and must watch the road ahead

and i’ll think of you then,

with the golden sun rising over

an empty battlefield, devoid of blood

and a sword clutched in my shaking hands

i wonder, my maiden fair,

if you would

if you could

take me as i am

well, i’ll return to you

just the same,

with a heart that beats in the

staccato of your name and

the rising sun at my back
