The Poem What I Wrote (Sorry Ernie).

Goldfinch60

I said I’d tell a poem

To this august crowd,

Then I had to find one,

And say it right out loud.

Would it be by Shakespeare,

Milton, Poe or Keats.

It had to by someone

To keep you in your seats.

Words of yellow daffodils,

Or maybe love or war,

Of youth or age or beauty;

I hope I’m not a bore.

The modern type of poem?

That doesn’t ever rhyme.

That seems to go on for ever,

With no punctuation or break for breath or sense of rhythm but drones on in a monotonous way that is only understandable in the strange mind of the author.

But no, you’re stuck with this one,

Not a massive work of art.

But it’s good enough for you lot!

So with that, I’ll now depart.

I'll take it Andy. Good job! 😉

This is a light-hearted and humorous piece that pokes fun at the different styles of poetry while also acknowledging their rich history and evolution.

      Most kind Mottakeenur, thank you.

      Good write Gold. lol.
Nothing much worse though than being in a Poetry Group, and some waffling on.
There was spare time, so we had to endure more, when some said 'I will just read one more!'

        Thanks Orchi.

I went to my poetry group yesterday and the time seemed to fly by.

Doh! i gave up going, as the time seemed to drag by. Then Mr/Mrs..... gave another interminable poem. I thought 'Oh no,' and dozed off! lol.

        • 2781

That was a delightfully easy read.

            Thank you 2781, much appreciated.

Thanks, Andy for M and W; I'm not so PC (only just a little) that I couldn't enjoy that.
Your poem may be not a massive work of art, but it is my kind of stuff and hugely entertaining.....

            • Goldfinch60

M and W were so funny and in many cases so moving in there shows. Thank you.

The line breaking is the punctuation. Breathe there.

                And why not indeed Neville.
