Hard Truths

M.E.M.

It is easier to tell someone the truth when you can't see their face.
That way, you don’t know how hurt they look—
how betrayed they feel by what you are telling them.

But their voice can’t hide it either.
You hear the crack in their sentence.
The stifled sob
as they force their words past a dam about to explode.

Instead of seeing what your words are doing to them
You have to hear it as you break their heart
by telling them ____________.
