Tune: Winchester New

('O splendour of God's glory bright')

2 Thessalonians 3 v.11-16 parts

*******

If any will not work, neither

Should they repast or either

For where some be disorderly

They work not, but busybody

In the name of the Lord may they

With quietness work, and so it be

They eat thier own food, ern living

From what their dily earnings bring

Be notweary in well doing

But continue in each good thing

The Lord of peace Himself give you

Peace always by all means and true

Remembering, Rogation-tide

Asking in prayer, we need not hide

For God knows all before we ask

And will bless us in our prayer task

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.8.8.8. Rogation-tide (rogare = to ask), the three days before Ascension Day, which is this coming Thursday. Verse 1 seems harsh, but it is to those who WILL NOT work, not to those who cannot work due to disability, etc. And worse, they not only refuse to work, but interfere in everyone else's business (like KP does. lol). A very old hymn by St Ambrose, 4th century AD.

Thanks N. Yes, did we meet him in person, you and I?!

I loved the older generation, I haven't met one who wanted something for nothing.

Thanks 2781. Can I call you '2' for short? Saves me typing all four numbers each time. lol.

I understand, took my 5 minutes to write that last note.

Reminds me of Zacharias and in the carrying out of his duty of care he received the moving that transforms the world whole in the timing of its Maker.

Thanks CB. You small like Zacchaeus, who climbed a tree to see Jesus as he passed by?

            • arqios

If there a tree be from which to see!

It seems people grow lazier every day. No one wants to expend effort or feels that the job is below them or that they are not compensated sufficiently. All honest work is respectful. Nice write

Thanks SB. What's worse, as here, is those who won't work, but interfere as busybodies in everyone else's business.
