the collapsed city

skpearl

chapter closed and i haven't breathed out since
i always thought you can only miss something
that made you happy
but now i miss that city
the park where i read my books in
got scared of my loneliness for the first time
and never went there ever again
the building that became the object of my desire ever since I heard you can get to the roof of it
the school that i prayed to get on fire
just because i couldn't find the courage to leave
the road i got so used to
and never drove it again in three years
the quiet sound of music from my phone
in the car that had one radio station
the club i went to two times
but lied i was there much more often
the bus stop where i gave some money to a man
and in exchange had my first conversation in a week
city where i was so sick i couldn't stop crying
or get up from the floor
but still got enough energy to study
and give everyone an expression
i am doing much better than them
such a funny time in such a funny place
that ill miss more that anything
and hope ill never see again

Your very personal poem rang true to me. Several times I was in a place for a length of time, a place that made me feel "out of place," Nothing there made me happy, yet upon leaving it was missed because it had become familiar to me. I guess that's why they say, "There's no place like home."
Your poem is very well written. I see no capitalization or punctuation. Is this your style? The poem is direct and the language is straight-forward. It was a good read. - Phil A.

Thank you for commenting! And to answer your question, yes, resigning from punctuation is part of my style. I want everyone to be able to read my poem "in their own way", so when they are reading it they can insert breaks or periods, where it feels like it - and not where I chose. I hope it makes sense. Have a good day!

This is so personal yet so relatable. I love how it describes my feelings for my hometown. I enjoyed reading it so much and i hope you feel safe and happy wherever you end up.

Thank you so much! It means a lot to me when someone says that they relate to my work
