I find the genre so appealing-the black independent movies made light (and took control) of their own representation even if the sub genre was cartoonish like the most other 70s film-exciting write!
Yes they no longer make films like this, which is a shame. More likely to see men in dresses now than anything else.
Reminds of Oriental Theater Chicago
Slaughter
Foxy Brown
Cleopatra Jones
sweet sweet Back
Three the hard way
Superfly
Dolemite
Coffee
and so many more
Classics indeed, the old style of filmmaking is lost now.
Aside from those, in the Tournament on Han’s Island , my favorite line in any movie occurred
When Bruce Lee was about to face the Giant of a man that had killed his sister, that scarred faced giant attempts to intimidate Bruce holding up two wooden planks and viciously smashing and breaking them glaring w evil in front of Bruce
Bruce , with a sort of a shrug in his voice then said “Boards Don’t Hit Back”
It sent shivers of expectant joy right through me.
Nice! Not seen that one.
I bet you did greatest Martial Arts movie ever and the first made by a major Hollywood studio and regarded as the benchmark in the Genre.
A WARNER BROTHER’s production
ENTER THE DRAGON
it’s a must watch. Trust ne
Oh yes of course sorry I thought you was quoting something quoting Bruce for some reason.
I quoted what Bruce said in the movie. If you ever view it agsin try and note that scene w specific interest. Masterful.
