Zacchaeus' Zeal

Tune: Merton

('Hark, a herald voice is sounding')

Luke 19 v.1-10

******

Zacchaeus, tax-collector he

Of certain short stature be

Climbed a tree for to Jesus see

As He passed in company

Jesus saw him, said, Zacchaeus

Make haste, come down, with no fuss

For today I must abide, stay

At your house with no delay

Then crowd murmured, Jesus, He be

Gone to visit sinner, see

To be a guest in his house, so

Their displeasure they did show

Zacchaeus in his house did say

To Jesus, Lord, here today

The half of my goods I give to

The poor, this my pledge anew

And if I from any taken

Falsely, and not mistaken

I restore unto them four-fold

So be my accounts resolved

Jesus said to him, Today is

Salvation come to house this

For he a son of Abraham

Is truly and is no sham

For Jesus the Son of man is

Come to seek, save lost, this bliss

Help us Lord, show our faith in deed

As Zacchaeus did you heed
