Who Can We Trust?

AuburnScribbler

We’re told to respect,

but it’s not a toy,

this thing, we reflect,

we destroy,

as there’s clear destruction,

in what they tell,

crude revelation,

makes our hell,

who we loved,

makes us question,

angels, above,

create a tension?

They touched and felt,

those kids who smiled,

admiration melts,

we run a mile,

gracious hosts die,

when a mirror’s shown,

we believed in their lie,

that they had sewn

popularism is poison,

that we’ve drank down,

the land does moisten,

all around,

the votes we cast,

have led to war,

see a broken mask,

upon the floor,

those with badges,

do not protect,

such flippant flashes,

that do neglect,

those revered few,

are fading away,

nothing’s new,

in the everyday,

if life’s a card game,

we’re all bust,

to which, we exclaim,

who can we trust?

  • Comment from author about the poem: Recently in the UK, some hard truths have come out about a certain television personality, and with such horrible truths coming out regarding organizations that are supposed to be respected, the Metropolitan Police and the Government, and of course, the everyday domestic calamities that happen relentlessly, it does beg the question, who can we trust? In this modern world the multitude are incredibly impressionable, meaning the droves dish out their respect blindly; in terms of what is popular, but the outcome is always a great deal of disappointment and heartache, it's dangerous! With such an operation in force, it means that the future could already be dead, as we have killed it via blind faith, but as long as humanity has a brain, there can have a thirst and hunger to change things for the better. I suppose the only person we can really trust is ourselves, but until such a time of such betterment, the question does scream, WHO CAN WE TRUST? I hope that you enjoy the poem, I hope that you have your faith in the right place, and as always, please do stay everyone.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

        • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read 2781, but regards to your pious advice, here's my thought...

The things I see, that are so real, they touch, they smell, they do congeal,
but they're there, both woe and glee, but when I look to sky, it's God-hand free.

I hope that all is well.

          Good write AS.
Trust me, of course! See, I got £5 notes for sale at £6 each! What more could one want?
He's a dodgy one, that Orchi, and shifty too make no mistake, they say! heehee.

          • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read orchidee, and hmm... I'm guessing you would have made a great banker, hahaha!

In terms of modern day insults, I'd say what I've just said has to be up there, but of course, it's said in a tone of both jest and suggestibility.

I hope the note selling goes well, hahaha!

I hope that all is well.

You are so right Ben, who can we trust.
Respect has just gone out of the window but it is so good when we do occasionally come across it.

            Andy

            • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Andy, and I too appreciate the minority of times where true respect is given, but the enormous tide of the fast-paced, running around - bumping into each other, without apologizing culture, is the mistaken reign of the everyday. I really do hope some real trust can be obtained.

I hope that all is well.

A truly wonderful peice here, and your last stanza made it so powerful.

              • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Teddy.15, and for your kind words, and yes, the last stanza is like a scream for help, I just hope that our operation as a species can improve, via more deep consideration.

I hope that all is well.
