Ten days
it took to cast away
your rusty old toy.
Ten days of infatuation
to throw away our relation.
And noticing you
were already gone
when I felt you slip away
left me barren as the pines
we loved to explore
as a family.
The news rang out
My chest cavity
And I hold
my knotted guts
In my throat,
Putting pressure
On my breath
Just like you used to.
For my hands
Have still yet
To hold someone new
And you’re already gone
In ten days.
But perhaps more bodies
Between us will lead
To more separation
And I can stop wearing
My stomach as my flesh.

I really like this piece on multiple levels. Succinct phrasing w clever metaphor and motion and logical development that delivers w an end that satisfies and proffers artistic inspiration.
