Drowning In The Dam, Damn

Shaunmatthewcpoetry

A 15-year-old's life is lost
Swimming with friends in the Sun
But what's the untimely cost?
Plenty of pools around
The poor girl drowned
Found in the dam, damn
I was sat in the pub across the road
Unaware of the drama set to unfold
The chopper was circling
Sirens were all blaring
I enjoyed my meal unaware
Disheartened when I heard they couldn't save her

    on our screens, true devastating
    tragedy
    seems far removed from our
    reality
    till, its our turn
to feel, how precious a life truly is
    witnessing that pain, fallout
as morbid legacy of a shortened
    life
and we, too numbed by life
    ask ourselves
have we lost the capacity, to feel
    to empathise
why didn't we have a clue
that mere miles from our smiles
    death
    was reading those last rights
    to a despairing heart
    ...
    (love the humane empathy
    in your chosen subject
    and poetic wording dear Poet
    Brilliant!)

Very sad, whoever led her in there will have to live with her death for the rest of their lives.
