Paraclete Promised

Tune: Hereford

('O thou who camest from above')

John 14 v.15-18

********

If you love me, my commands keep

I will still tend to you, my sheep

Said Jesus, and He too would pray

The Father, then He went away

Would pray the Father, He shall give

Another Comforter, you live

A constant Helper, Paraclete

In Him too is Christ's life complete

And He shall abide with us e'er

Even the Spirit of truth, ne'er

Shall He depart, but world not know

Or see Him when He sent below [to Earth]

But believers shall know Him for

He dwells within and with them sure

Christ will not leave us comfortless

He sends the Spirit who shall bless
