Caged Bird

Garth Rakumakoe

Caged bird

caged, in praying hands

Caged bird, sing

Sing the dew off my deceased

suitcased dreams

in the reverberation of thine

flapping wings, till morning breaks

till my release

till the skies are blue

and clouds are white

I pray, sing

caged bird, sing!

Maya Angelou has competition!!! This is written to a T. I adore your author's note as well, our dreams should always be our driving force. The caged bird is most definitely a powerful metaphor for the human desire to be free.

"The human desire to be free"... - Couldn't have said it better, good Sir. Much gratitude dear RL. 🙏🏼

I think it was the kris kristopherson that hit the nail on its head when he wrote and sang freedoms just another word for nothing left to lose ... Neville

Can't say I know the song, but I can definitely concur with the sentiment... 🙏🏼

    Brilliant!
    (I can't help thinking
    Lawrence Dunbar and Maya
would be proud of these words)
    'free bird, sing
    squawk and scream
    alert the world
    to the plight of injustice
    scorching your veins
    insuring your brave eyes
    are ablaze with aliveness
    in each, uncaged breath!'

Blessings, blessings. Your words rain blessings dear L.B!
