A Diet for Our Eyes and Our Souls

AuburnScribbler

It’s all well and good, all these calorie counts,

and for the government, to cut down our amounts,

but to truly become healthier, we need another goal,

we need to have a diet, for our eyes and our souls,

as a garish island of lovers, who make some suicides,

is a poisonous dish for our souls and our eyes,

so, is the slating of the stars, who have fallen,

it turns a family, into a mob, where all things are swollen,

cookies of another type, telling us to buy,

a desperate rehash of greed, where purity comes to die,

though smart houses gleam, a light is doused within,

as the soul becomes so heavy, prolonging such a sin,

but it’s normal, and popular, therefore it must be right,

you can’t argue with the numbers, who make the insight,

so, watch away, buy away, to become a fleshing robot,

never mind the wholesomeness, that you’ve forgot,

when it comes to our consumption, this is the takeaway,

in watching all these dirty screens, it makes a sorry day,

it’s sanctioned, and sponsored, by those who play with trust,

I don’t know about you, but this is visual toxic crust,

instead, of trying to boringly, seek out the body beautiful,

there are too many mistakes today, be more dutiful,

it’s not the food we eat, it’s what we see, that takes its toll,

it’s time to start a diet, for our eyes and our souls.

  • Comment from author about the poem: In a comment to Bella Shepard on my poem "Panel Show Prophet" I suggested the idea of having "visual specialists", that would encourage us to "read or watch healthier", she quite liked the concept, and therefore, I would like to share with you the finished poem, that was sparked from such an idea. We have dieticians saying, cut down on fast food, and any other foods deemed unhealthy, but when it comes to what is broadcast on both television and in the media in general, (which mostly, is catastrophically detrimental to the mind,) it would seem that such an "authority" hasn't been found yet, to combat the mental unhealthiness of everyday visual consumption. A side note, such an "authority" might not have been, or will ever be found, as it would be economically detrimental to the "fat cats" who need to remain in charge, of which, you're doing such a "gooood" job!!!!! I hope that you enjoy this poem, and I hope that you are judicious in what what you watch or read, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

It is a challenge to "turn it off" so thanks for the encouragement. Our passivity and unconscious reception of what others choose to place before our eyes is insidious as well as what they choose to show us, usually for clicks, ads, and generally to addict us.

Thanks for the read jarcher54, and glad that you're on side. It really is a challenge to turn off, in the bright light modern day way of running things.

Those that profit from such a divisive and greedy operation say that we, as a species are improving. However at what cost and how much will the cost grow, both economically and physically. If more of this kind of pouring is the norm, and if that is the case, this isn't improvement, it is choosing to remain catastrophically imperfect.

Sorry for the rant, thanks again for the read, and I hope that all is well.

Turn the telly orf (or turn it orf a while) - or chuck it out the window?! lol But there was a nice nature programme I wanted to see..... heehee.

      • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read orchidee, and I know I have the choice to turn the TV off, or to chuck it out the window, but the same questionable programming, allowed by the same questionable TV commissioners, who should be serving a sentence for the disgust they broadcast, will still be on air.

But as you've said, it's not all doom and gloom, nature documentaries, or any documentaries that encourages people to learn stuff, are indeed visual medicines, in such disappointing and damaging times.

I've just seen the scrap man outside my window, I'll aim an old broken laptop in the back of his wagon eh? Hahaha!

I hope that all is well.

It is within us all to look at and be reality instead of being mislead by those who think they know what is right.

Thanks for the read Andy, and yes, I agree, though it's important to enjoy ourselves, it's also our responsibility to be more judicious and attentive.

I hope that all is well.
