Night Garden

AJ Douglas

The late hour

is like a flower

unfurling and revealing

thoughts obscured

blurred by the blinding

sunshine and the hustle

and bustle of the day

sending them scattering

like seeds over a fertile field

to sprout under the stars

taking root in my restless brain

Dawn has arrived across

the ocean on your island

By now you’ve awakened

perhaps went for a run in the park

before breakfast as you mused

on another beautiful morning

while here but for the moon’s

platinum glow over the garden

outside my window all is still dark

and I should be sleeping
