Philippi Prison

Tune: Hyfrydol

('Alleluia! Sing to Jesus')

Acts 16 v.25-34

*********

In Philippi, Paul, Silas, they

In a prison did sing, pray

And at midnight a great earthquake

Foundations of place did shake

And all prison doors were open

All prisoners chains loosed then

Keeper of prison awaking

Dis witness amazing thing

He drew his sword, was about to

Kill himself, for this he knew

he had not guarded prison well

Poor report of him would tell

He supposed prisoners had fled

But with loud voice Paul then said

Do yourself no harm, we all be

Here in our cells, come, look, see

Keeper asked for a light, then ran

In to the cell, saw each man

There, and came trembling, and di fall

Down before Paul, Silas, all

Brough them out of prison cell, free

Sirs, What must I do to be

Saved? They said, Believe now upon

The Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son

And so you shall be saved, and your

Whole household shall be saved sure

They spake to him word of the Lord

And to household, they assured

Of salvation, and the keeper

Kindness on them did confer

Washed their wounds received from beatings

Comforted them with good things

Then he and all his house baptised

Were straightaway, none denied

And when he them then brought into

His house he gave them food too

And rejoiced, in god believing

Salvation all receiving

Rejoiced with all his house that day

Knowing Christ the Life, Truth, Way
