The Thousand-Day Wait

Rohan Regi

My hands may never grasp great wealth or riches,
My eyes may never see life's finest pleasures,
But what I crave above all else is this:
The sweet bliss of your love, which fuels my dreams.

My eyes are entranced by the sight of you,
Your voice echoes in my ears like a song,
I live my days enveloped in tears,
Longing never to lose you, my precious one.

Why do I love you more with each passing day?
What is happiness without this sweet wait?
I thank the universe for this delay,
For now, I know life without you is bare.

The places where your smile once shone so bright,
Now only watch me as I sit alone.
Perhaps a thousand more days I'll wait,
For the one day that will finally be ours.

The passion that you portrayed here was amazing, as I could definitely feel the speaker's burning desire for their loved one. The theme of time that you incorporated played an integral part in your work, as it indicated that the speaker waited for so long to be with their loved one — and now chooses to wait again to be with them once more. Although the middle section of this poem turned hopeless, the final part concluded with a sense of hope and determination — something worth fighting for — which was a solid way to end the work. Overall, the imagery you used here effectively communicated a heartbreaking moment and portrayed it very poetically. Fantastic job!
