Today I learnt something new
Something I wish that wasn't true
Of children trafficked around the world
Sold for slavery and much, much more
Today I learnt what evil is
When the rape of children is an enterprise
And when they are broken and of no further use
They're butchered like meat
Each part sold or consumed
This fact, this knowledge
Now haunts me so
What if the child were mine
Or is someone's I know?
So I'm stuck with this thought
About 'what can I do!?'
Then I remember I'm human
And all is well
I don't have to do a thing
Because my Apathy is strong
I don't want to know
So I'll put my telly on
And be distracted by
The latest 'celebrity' scandal
Consumed with outrage about nothing important
Because children being raped
Is a bit too far
I don't want to know
So I'll forget what I've learnt
*Fact human trafficking is a very close second to drug crime and is still on the rise. While you've read my stupid poem a child has been stolen from their families right now never to be seen again. The US is the world's number 1 for child sex trafficking but if you think it doesn't happen here in the UK you are wrong. Look it up.

Can't fault that , Sax. Sickening.
Good though to see a piece here with concern beyond broken hearts in love etc.
It's not just a piece Dave. Sadly it's a reality
Yes - apologies for that. Could have phrased it better. I have no doubt about the reality.
In my head was (possibly an old theme of mine) the overwhelming lack of such 'pieces' in these pages.
A poignant write SC.
Kudos Sax
It should definitely be at the top of what we call criminal acts! But money does talk or should I say help things not be said!
Great reality check and maybe there will become a day when it's not needed. Until then we should shine a light on those that hide in plain sight.
My dear friend, this poem is both startling, and as shocking as it should be. Being a citizen of the US, I ashamed to say that I had no idea of the scope of human traffing in this country, especially children. I felt compelled to search for information, and I was appalled at what I found. It's so easy to turn a blind eye, out of sight out of mind. You definitely lit a fire of awareness that I will never forget. Thank you!!!
This is so very true SC and I agree that it must be dealt with in the most stringent way.
