Broken Projector

AuburnScribbler

Say hi, to the new kid on the block,

no need for a ticket, it’s stream o’clock,

tinsel town repeats, raise vision questions,

maybe they’re due, some interventions,

wait, what? They think they’re laymen,

who’s that leaving? It’s Matt Damon,

no need to see, big screen bombs,

for rich and famous, seem truly wronged,

hence, no more writing, says SAG-AFTRA,

means no more “happily ever after”,

casts read lines, up and down the streets,

as poor Matilda, can’t buy her sweets,

the highly influential, live reality,

no longer wearing capes of fantasy,

seeking their rights, to save principal,

but the gap between fans, remains so cruel,

poor Hollywood, is now in tatters,

as AI replaces, what really matters,

but a “need for speed”, is modern living,

a broken projector’s, no longer spinning,

I’m sure it’s a case, the film’s on pause,

as something this big, is the people’s cause,

so, when it returns, bring some new refreshments,

as there was a sour taste, with those old investments.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I thought I'd continue with my current "what's happening now?" poems, with one about the recent Hollywood strike. The banner picture, to me, looks like a projector has accidently doubled and reversed an image, thus, has become broken. I hope that you enjoy the poem, I hope that when the industry does return to their writing desks, originality can be given more of a chance, instead of easy dollar making remakes, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

    Good write AS.
Celebrities make no difference at all to some folk's lives. Never even knew there was a strike on!

    • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read orchidee, and if you didn't notice that there was a strike on, then I suppose, consider yourself to be in very good company indeed.

I hope that all is well.

      • orchidee

I not got time to watch all those rubbish films! lol.

        • AuburnScribbler

          Ditto! Hahaha!

I've gone to bed by the time half those films start. We won't miss much, and, erm, we won't lose any sleep over them, cos we won't be staying up late to see 'em. lol.
I saw 'Dracula' one late night, then hid under the bed-clothes afterwards. lol.

            • AuburnScribbler

Yeah, recent Hollywood "efforts" are all too sleep inducing, but just out of curiosity, which "Dracula" did you watch, was it the one with Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi or Gary Oldman?

              • orchidee

                Christopher Lee I think.

A great write my friend, and so very true. It seems the easy buck replaces everything these days. There are so many great writers e, wasting time and talent on what is sellable, instead of what is worth while. I think I'd rather have nothing than tripe. I agree wholeheartedly, this is truly a fav.

                • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read and for favouriting this poem Bella, it's very much appreciated.

I'm glad that your very kind comment is in agreement with the words I've written, let us hope, that things both creatively and in general, can get much better.

I hope that all is well.

Such true words Ben, art is being overtaken by wanting money by those who can only see profit and not the beauty that artists of all types can bring to us.

                  • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Andy, and again, like I said in my response to Bella's comment, let us hope that things can get better.

I hope that all is well.
