Alarm goes off at seven,
I don’t even yawn,
My power makes me happy,
And it keeps me warm,
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh?
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh!
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
Lanyard, yeah!
Can’t wait for office people,
For they are my world,
I shout out my orders,
See my wisdom twirl,
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh?
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh!
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
Lanyard, yeah!
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh?
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh!
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
Lanyard, yeah!
Though my shift is over,
My authority stays,
The system gives me control,
As everybody pays,
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh?
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh!
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
Lanyard, yeah!
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh?
What you doing on the hook, on the door? Eh!
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
Lanyard, yeah!
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah,
I’ve got my lanyard, yeah!

- Comment from author about the poem: I can't be sure, but I think that in some previous poems, I may have mentioned or marginally hinted at lanyards. However, I'm very sure, I haven't written a song about them, so... I thought I'd write another parody song, this time, to the rhythm of The Bee Gees classic, You Should be Dancing. This song is about the object around the neck of that special kind of someone, who is a proud badge wearer, who likes to talk nothing but shop everywhere they go, regardless of other people's happiness. In case you do not know the original, by The Bee Gees, either because you've been living in a cave for the last sixty years, or have judiciously chosen to be a steady cog in humanity's industry machine, please find a YouTube video link of it above. The banner picture is very apt, as in the relentless world of business, time is precious, because they always say "time is money", thus, "money is power". I hope that you enjoy my re-wording of The Bee Gees classic, to befit a certain brief, I hope that you don't choose to live behind "comfort blankets", like a badge, or in this case, a lanyard, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

I thought you said 'farmyard!' lol.
Good write AS.
Thanks for singing along orchidee, and bless you with the "farmyard", and I totally agree what you are eluding to, farms, do really need our attention right now, for sure.
I hope that all is well.
I never knew what a lanyard was, until I got one on some in-person course - oohh, a lanyard of me own! lol.
You must have felt very important when you got it, hahaha!
I'm in a thoroughly good mood because of this. Awesome!
Thanks for the read and for favouriting this song Eugene, it's very much appreciated, and I'm glad it brightened your mood. I'm guessing that you are a proud owner of a lanyard yourself?
Thanks again, and I hope that all is well.
I've put furniture and storage in many an office
So have met many of whom you speak
Nicely tied in to the brothers Gibb
Enjoyed your notes as well
Keep scribbling
Thanks for the read peto, and I'm afraid I was, begrudgingly, an "office person" myself once, but the lanyard and the environment made me quite ill, thus I'm glad to be out of it, but I'm glad your visits to those places were "flying visits" so to speak.
I hope that all is well.
