Her hair had long since turned to gray
The silky black a long lost day
When did all this life take place?
She’d count the wrinkles on her face
The house had weathered 60 years
Through all the grief and salty tears
Through happiness, life and death
And all within a single breath
When as a bride she came to live
With all the love she had to give
They made a home, a family
In which they dwelt most happily
She thought about her wedding ring
A plain and lovely, simple thing
She had it lost years ago
When they’d played and frolicked in the snow
For the search which lasted ‘til twilight
Had ended in a snow ball fight
The loss replaced with children’s laughter
Turned out a happily ever after
Time did pass and then one day
Their children grew and flew away
She kissed each cheek and wished them well
And then the house became a shell
The two of them, just he and she
Had life to live and things to see
A brand new feeling now bestowed
The freedom of the open road
They met each other as anew
And once again the love just grew
A touch, a stroke, a warm embrace
He’d trace the curve of her sweet face
The day had come when it was she
She missed him unbelievably
She couldn’t picture life alone
How could she face the vast unknown?
They had always been as one
And now the life she’d known was done
How could she cope without him there?
They had always been a pair
The car these years has sat unused
When asked to sell, she had refused
The memories were far too dear
And so she thought to keep them near
The house now sold, an empty shell
Time to leave, she must not dwell
She slowly walked this one last time
Down the steps she’d no longer climb
And then she spied them arm ‘n arm
They possessed a familiar charm
Newly weds to take her place
In this house of love and grace
Silky black hair and handsome man
Think of all the time they’ll span
Upon the mantelpiece she’d placed
Something she had long embraced
A photo old and slightly torn
Creased from loving fingers worn
He and she would always be
The couple in the red MG

A fine write Bella.
You done that cleaning?! lol.
Thank you dear Orchi! When they start to gather cobwebs, it's time to act. Wish I could say the same for the house. lol
Ain’t that a shame? ‘The house had weathered 60 years’ beautiful metaphor as well (her body)
Thank you dear friend for reading and for your kind words. I love that you thought of her body!
Tremendous rhyme and flow as I've come to expect from you
It's the content however that sets it apart
Superb Bella
I am so appreciative of your comments dear friend, thank you for reading. Take care!
Wonderful words Bella, that life together is so wonderful, I know.
Andy
Thank you so much Andy, I know how much you can relate. Wishing you and Mary all the love and joy in the world!

Thank you my magnificent friend for your kind words, always love to hear from you. Thank you so much for the fav.
I seem to have a knack of not being around at the off .. but am delighted to have arrived here now that the dust has settled .. and I am able to take my time and to take the whole thing in ..
This must surely be your flagship Bella at least to date that is ..
beautifully crafted throughout with not a word out of place .. and if it were not a contradiction in terms, I would go as far as to say, it is timeless ..
Full marks indeed from me to thee .. Neville
My Dearest Nev, I am lost for words at your touching comment. And to thee, you always lift me up to where I can see. God bless dear friend, you are a treasure in this old heart of mine.
poem's like this, is why I'm in love with Poetry
those cannon fodders
can keep their refinement elitism
their abstracted far-fetched imagery
all I need, are a few poetic words
of artistic sincerity
breathing life to a memory
a concept, a thought, a life's story...
I'm in love with the elegance of this
decadently unfurling, poetic gem
just !!!Brilliant!!!
(I bow to your superior talent dear cherished Poet)
and it had to be a morgan
the last car manufacturers to use
actual wood in the frame of the cars
gave it that personalised feel
even in an assembly line batch, each car
had its own unique personality
clinging-on
to the days when artisans
put a little of themselves in that they crafted
with love
like you've done with this Poem
my talented friend
(sorry for my overzealous enthusiasm
I genuinely admire works of subtle genius
so rare)
thank you!
My Dearest L.B., would that we could all have one that last ride in that MG. I am truly humbled, and dare I say weak in the knees from the touching words of your comment. My greatest joy is to find communion with on who appreciates the extraordinary simplicity of life. You have truly brightened my day, thank you so much!
A wonderfully written poetic story here Bella, with a beautiful ballad like rhythm, you've painted a wholesome tale of life, that culminates in an enduring image.
Bravo, and I hope that all is well.
Thank you so much dear friend. It is always such a pleasure when you stop by to read and comment, truly appreciated. Take care as well.
Change is something unavoidable but so difficult and even more so as we grow older. An empty nest is tough to adjust to and downsizing to another home is difficult as well. The loss of a life long companion is toughest of all and I loved your last line.
As always you understand the heart of my write. You are right about change and its inevitability, we know that it is coming but are never truly ready for. Thank you so much for your kind comments.
