VETERAN

nephilim56

The spectators war is over
A history on a tv screen
But the soldiers war goes on
Mental wounds still bleed.

Drink, drugs and homelessness
Shattered bodies fill his dreams
Faces of friends and enemies
The horror still is real.

Cold and lonely doorways
Discipline and pride somewhere
Time lost in a screaming nightmare
In a country that doesnt care.

Your title of course is perfect your poem speak the dark truth. Actually I believe that veterans mostly are left in the gutter I'm only speaking of the UK here but I know also in the USA they are also considered yesterday's news. Without these amazing brave soldiers we wouldn't even be having this discussion
How is the world this harsh?

            Drink, drugs and homelessness
            Shattered bodies fill his dreams
            Faces of friends and enemies
            The horror still is real

So powerful and painful because it's the truth. Wonderful and full respect to all veterans across the world.
