Observing a Miracle

Teddy.15

As I sip my morning coffee

In the local café-bar

I see the same Gentleman

every day, he sits opposite me

in the same old leather chair

removing his flat cap

as every gentleman does

I often wonder

why he always sits in the same place?

you see, his wife died many year ago

but to him, she’s right there

 sitting next to him

I can just see it, in his eyes

every time he sits down

it’s as if

he is sitting down next to her

when he looks out of the window

even on rainy days

it’s as if he is looking out at her

and when it’s time for him to leave

he puts on his flat cap once more

and heads back out, into the busy street

his right elbow bending

 his darling wife

on the end of his arm

the thing that strikes me most about him

is his very kind smile

and in turn…

the smile he brings to me.

When true love hits, even when
the loved one is gone, their love stays with us forever; and it can't help but shine through. At least that's what I got from this one! Very nice! ❀️

An absolutely wonder poem of observation and imagination. "As every gentleman does," establishes his identity as the forlorn lover, a classic figure that you use well. Your closing is equal to the task and adds a balance for the rreader. I simply loved this - Phil A.

I'm truly honoured that you have enjoyed this dear Phil, it's not difficult to reflect on this type scenario when I'm filled with such gentlemen in my life and on MPS. Thank you so very much for this beautiful review. πŸ’–

I once had a patient whose wife had died several years before. Yet every day he cooked his meal and set a place for her, served her plate, after cleared the table, washed the dishes and put them away just as if she were still there. A touching poem of missing someone that had been a part of one's life.
