I Am Woke
I sit by the bed of nails
you placed before me.
And listen to your bedtime tales,
of how my great, great grandparents
profited by your enslavement.
I understand why
you minimize my ancestors’ history,
so you can standup
on a crumbling pedestal.
I am woke to the fact
you’re running from the truth.
And the truth,
will set me free.

You could say that 72 more times because you can never speak truth too often. When I bring up the fairness and logic to the white people that I have known to be fair , now I’m addressing the people who honestly consider themselves against social injustice and work to reduce the effect of right wing haters that have strong racist agendas , I felt as a social experiment I would engage these “fair” thinkers to rally in favor of reparations. I was so shocked that most in this group do not see the validity of any type of proactive policies and argue in great majority against enacting even minimal gesture to allocate resource to move toward financial fairness. I end up in heated discussions that saddens me deeply cuz if even the “good “ white folk won’t budge the chasm divide is maintaining status quo. But I try and I’m persuasive and have conviction and logic and fail again and again. There are Two America’s and it’s getting impossible for me to optimistic toward hope for repair. SMH.
The hope lies with the the up and coming generations. That's why it is imperative they have access to knowledge and not ban it. I'm 70 and to many in my generation are caught in their silos and are afraid to look over them to see reality.
I’ve always thought exactly that but something about the solution of waiting for people to die seems naive and isn’t backed by any trends and its main component is wishes and hope. My pops always said if wishes were placed in one hand and you spit in the other hand , see which one fills up first. Current reality strongly suggests a much more dire prognosis , and I’ll use a readers digest version for this format but please trust one more inclusive of logic and detail Oscar my ready.
So , it’s this trump thing that exists even though all logical analysis suggests his base should have abandoned him long ago. There can be only one explanation and it’s racism’, and it’s in an exceptionally insidious form with plausible deniability abound such thst it exist in a form where recognition of the racism never gets discussed or considered as THE reason. Deeply racist people know that Trump will help breed the hate 100 times any other candidate conviction. It is impossible fir that dog whistle component that enables the divide to ever even remotely be duplicated again. It’s their heaven. It’s such a powerful secret belief thst it trumps any immoral or dysfunctional adoect the trump brings to the table. They have their Hitler and they will lie about the reason they back him but they sleep well knowing he makes it possible for their reflexive hatred to thrive. That strange hidden desire to keep hating is more important than anything and hence that does not bode well for the hope of solution they’ve waits for people to fir. Rather the trend .is decidedly opposite snd the hand w expectorant continues to fill Deep deep hatred shamefully is a way of life.
Resistance to wokeness stems from fear of facing the truth. We all know that. Even those who resist. They cover that fear, that insecurity, with outrage and denial because they think they can't bear admitting the truth. Thank you for this small but intense soliloquy.
