Cancer

Eugene S.

They don't know how long I've known you.
I have protected your existence.
None of my best friends know you,
but I do, and unlike everything in this world, you have been faithful and true.

You've been there for a long long time.
Almost twenty years and counting.
My quiet companion, never maligned
Though you serve as a sign that my world
is running out of time.

I guess all things just have to die,
like the summer shower that just passed over,
and no matter how much stubbornness,
and pride that may reside within me,
one day, your presence I'll no longer hide.

Thank you. I have to be near the ocean sometimes to get it out and onto the page.

      IPA's help too...
