When We Are One

Bella Shepard

When we can stand

Beside one another

As sister and as brother

When we can come together

In unity

As one grand community

When we have achieved

This closure

Then surely

Hell will have

Frozen over

  • Comment from author about the poem: Taking a chance on this one and hope I don't offend. The first two lines were in my head as I woke this AM, and I could have gone one of two ways. I suppose I chose the cheap joke, and all I can say is that the devil made me do it.

I stand beside KP for 2 seconds. That's the amount of time we agree over anything! lol. Well, she dashes off for botox. lol.

    • Bella Shepard

You and KP have such a love/hate relationship, well maybe more hate than love. You take care now, ya hear!

      • orchidee

Yep 95% hate, 5% love! heehee.

      • Teddy.15

Take a chance always because this is powerful and to the point in your last lines, just imagine if we could live in harmony side by side! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I still hope so for my Son.

        • Bella Shepard

Thank you dear Teddy. I also hope for my grandchildren that they may even see a glimmer of unity. God Bless, everyone!

I sadly agree Bella. What a wonderful world it would be, maybe some day if we as a race last that long. Good write Bella thanks for sharing.

          • Bella Shepard

It is sad my friend, but as long as we have each other, and keep hope alive, well maybe there's a chance. God bless!

Totally uncharacteristic, Bella. I sincerely hope this is not a new direction for you.........
I don't believe in the devil anymore than I believe in the big fella upstairs, but the metaphor is (for a change) well understood by me.
Just don't, I beg of you, do it again. They are really my lines; I rely on you to be a countervailing force.....

            • Bella Shepard

I suppose that irony got the best of me. And no, it's not my usual direction. Thank you for reading my friend, your comments and opinions are always much appreciated.

There's an icy chill in the air, even as the planet heats up. When we all stand together, as we all should, almost anything is possible. When there is but one of us in dispute, nothing will get better. The odds are stacked against us, but we must persevere. A wonderful original take on the state of "US." - Phil A.

Thank you dear poet, so kind of you to read. You are spot on with your comment.

              • LIZ

Wow! Bravo Bella! Glad you took a chance!! Sadly this is true!!! Loved it! 💕💕

                • Bella Shepard

Thank you dear Liz. Taking a chance these days is risky, and something I rarely do. Such friends as you certainly make it easier. Take care!

One day we may stand beside each other in love and agreement giving us such a wonderful world Bella.

                  Andy

                  • Bella Shepard

Oh, I hope so dear Andy. It's up to each one of us to somehow keep it alive.

too few take risks these day .. it feels increasingly like a tick a box, tap a key and pop a pill world we all live in .. I believe we have risk assessed ourselves into a corner ..

I also agree with every ingle word you have writ .. glad you broke the mould my friend & it didn't go the other way wink wink .. Neville

Dearest Nev, can't thank you enough, and I absolutely agree with your analysis. I just held my breath and hit Publish. It's unusual for me to go in that direction, but with everything that's happening in our world these days, it just seemed the way to go. I don't know, maybe the devil did make me do it.

Like it started with your dreams or wishes for the world
                      Then ended with the reality
                      Great content and wisdom
                      A can't miss writer

                      • Bella Shepard

Thank you so much my valued friend. The funny thing is, I was in that early morning stage of sleep when the first two lines were there. I thought of writing something uplifting and hopeful. When I sat down at the keyboard I just couldn't do it, because it almost seemed hypocritical. Thank you for seeing the irony, and truly getting it.

                      • L. B. Mek

                        Amen!
(from you fingers, to fate's ears)

                        • Bella Shepard

You are the sweetest my dear friend, thank you!

                        • Pop64

So very true. I hope and pray for unity, a lasting unity. I cannot wait for hell to freeze over

                          • Bella Shepard

Thank you so much my friend, your comments are always greatly appreciated. I keep hoping that if each one of us does our own little part, someday it will all add up. God bless!

                          • AuburnScribbler

A gorgeously written poem here Bella, such an emphatic reminder of the base hope that is in all of us. Though the understandable infuriating tone you've chosen for the last three lines, is a lament of the prolonged true horror story, that humanity continues to write.

Thank you for sharing, bravo, and I hope that all is well.

                            • Bella Shepard

Your comments are always as intuitive as is your verse. I sincerely thank you!

You are very welcome, and bless you for your kind words too.

                                Superb work.

Thank you Thomas, take care my friend!
