MONK and MY AUNT

Bobby O

Monk and My Aunt

Both heard the call. "Straight no Chaser" said it all. Barkeep readied Scotch, kept neat. The 88's tingled a most disharmonious beat, Round Midnight he displayed , unashamed, teary eyes that clue those who care to look, his walk through hated change, his grief, hazed fog, pervasive funk. He tipped his glass, longed for one last smile, Aunt Carol, he, and Thelonius Monk!

The hyper focus on being present among the spirit of jazz in the ‘hazed fog’ and the ‘pervasive funk’ can bring nothing but the mastery of jazz consumption, as it is meant to be-I’m sure the jazz heroes may have hoped for exactly this type of intimacy and commitment -thanks for the write as always

You are so spot on and it’s power to transport and be tactile in the present. It was my favorite way to spend time with my favorite person.

Brilliant, you and Monk. Great memories of listening to him one summer in '87. Nice work.

Monk might be good for every summer cuz suddenly In Walked Bud to make the joint live and Started jumping I listen to some of that west coast jazz. After I dig through and toss out the silly soft stuff I might linger on Blue Rondo Ala Turk by Brubeck/ Desmond or some Wes Montgomery or maybe grab that hidden gem Stolen Moments by Oliver Nelson. Of course Chet can radiate that ‘pet anytime
