Mockingbird

sorenbarrett

I've listened to larks and warblers

Each with its own song

envied the plumage of peacocks and tanagers

with colors so vibrant and strong

Crows as thieves, nature did ordain

to take anything shiny or about strewn

But the mockingbird with feathers so plain

steals no grain, only a tune

So out of this mirror of sound

from poets I covet, I steal a word

Then with this, purloined bound

I am a mockingbird

Liked the tenor of your argument, Soren.
Birds, like humans are a pretty diverse lot. For me a tuneful antipodean might include an Australian magpie or a lyrebird. Delinquents dressed in feathers? We have a few.......

Thanks Dave appreciate the review and comment. I knew a couple of birds that thought they were human, all they wanted was money.

              Brilliant!

'So out of this mirror of sound
from poets I covet, I steal a word'

              I so relate!

              • sorenbarrett

Thank you L.B. it occurs to me, like Ezekiel, that there is nothing new under the sun and that we are all ripples or echoes in this world but then that's not so bad either. Thanks so much L.B.

Then so be it, be a mockingbird and fill our ears with song and eyes with words. Beautiful!
