Pat on the Back

In a sordid world, full of woe,

there is an ardent need to grow,

a replica, I try not to be,

my actions say, “this is me”,

 

as a brother, and as a son,

in misery, I shall be the fun,

as a partner, and as a friend,

I’ll try to be your long weekend,

 

in my reflection, some self-doubt,

but there are words, that do shout,

“we love you, our dear good boy!”

The strength in me, to employ,

 

so, either at home, or on the road,

I will share the even-flow,

in a way that I know how,

to be a light in the crowd,

 

it’s not just me, it’s you as well,

we can make good personnel,

and become the ones who can heal,

create on Earth, a good ideal,

 

thus, in our customary discretions,

let’s re-write, such sombre sessions,

that have left us so far, in the black,

let’s all earn, our pat on the back.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A nicer one this one. Just picture the scene, humanity actually trying it's best to rectify their wrongs, in order to earn the right, to label themselves worthy custodians of Earth. It can happen, if we are brave and decent enough, and of course, in doing so, we can truly pat ourselves on the back. I know that their are some angelic like people providing the best service they can, thus, their pats on the back could already be served, but in general, when it comes to the species, our pats on the back, are pending. Nevertheless, if you know that you are doing your best, then cling on to the hope that a pat on the back is in the proverbial post, and when it arrives, sign on the dotted line/hand console with pride. The banner picture is apt, as I envisage that every heart, that bears a different colour, represents the glow of individuals, that comprise a harmonious variety. I hope that you enjoy the poem, work for that pat on the back, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

    The rhyme and flow in this is perfect as you provide the truth of us, the whole world's population, just putting in the effort. We'd then be unstoppable. Awesome read!

      It is a dream waiting to be realised, but when the wrong people are in charge, who are lazily voted in because of sordid habit, there will always be an unfortunate stall.

        Though there is plenty that unites us, including a sense of group effort, there should be something individually proud to boast, or perhaps not boast, but a different way of doing things, in order to encourage some change for the better.
