Wise Ways

Tune: Abbots Leigh

('Glorious things of thee are spoken')

Proverbs 16 v.19-25

*********

Better to be humble spirit

With the lowly, from proud quit

They that handle matters wisely

Shall find good, act sensibly

And whosoe'er trusts in the Lord

Blessings on them be outpoured

Wise in heart shall be called prudent

[The] Spirit in lives resident

The sweetness of the lips gives more

Learning, increases it sure

Understanding is a well-spring

Of life, wisdom it does bring

But the instruction of fools be

Unwise things, outcome folly

The heart of the wise it teaches

Their mouth, what each says, preaches

And it adds learning to the speech

Where'er seeds scattered do reach

Pleasant words are as honeycomb

And the experience known

That they are sweet unto the soul

And health to bones, making whole

Man's ways sometimes they do seem right

But at end there death and blight
