Lyrics on Love

orchidee

Tune: Ebenezer

(one tune to: 'O the deep, deep love of Jesus')

1 John 4 v.10-21 parts

*********

Here is love, not that we first loved

But God loved us, us encoved* (*encovenanted)

Sent His son for our salvation

Avails to every nation

He the propitiation for

Our sins, e'en for evermore

Teh atoning sacrifice made

Our sins price for us has paid

Love we ponder, meditation

And too love shown in action

This love we can know and believe

Love of God we can receive

They that dwell in love, in God dwell

They shall prosper and fare well

Such sell in God, God in them dwells

And their lives His glory tells

If we say we love God, and hate

Others, we are in poor state

And we lie, for who does love not

Others seen, such is our lot

For if we love not those that we see

How then can it be that we

Love God, who we have not seen, though

He in Christ His Son we know

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7. 8.7.8.7. There is a slower, more plodding tune to this, I think. But this joyful tune fits well too, I would say.
