Make Haste To Hastings!

orchidee

Yes, it's that day again

(See Goldfinch's poem too for today)

The Battle of Hastings 1066 in the UK

There's an annual reunion

It's free to attend, but with one condition...

You have to have been there in person

Fighting in that battle

All of 957 years ago

And it helps if your name is Methuselah

He lived to 969 years, it's said

But Goldfinch and I - who can tell

How old we are? How young we are?

We're both millions of years old/young!

We were the first two men on the Moon (and Fido)

Not those in 1969

We stepped out from the dark side of the moon

To shake their hands and say 'Greetings, Earthlings!'

You knows that the true version

And E.T. is Fido's friend!

Yes, haste to Hastings

For more merriment and nuttiness

I'll add water to your wine too!

Happy birthday Hastings. I'm glad I'm not that old. Don't like fighting much and the mud would not be much fun. I wouldn't like to catch an arrow in my eye. Good write Orchi.
