Tune: St Clement
('The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended')
Luke 4 v.18-19
*******
When Jesus in synagogue, He read
From Isaiah, these words He said
That the Spirit of the Lord upon
Me is, to bring life to each one
Because the Lord He had anointed
Me to preach the gospel, so led
Me, and has sent me to heal broken
Hearted, bring wholeness unto men* (*mankind)
And to preach deliverance unto
The captives, and to them renew
Recovering of sight to the blind
So they in me true light shall find
To set at liberty those oppressed
They who are bruised and find no rest
To preach here now the acceptable
Year of the Lord, salvation to all

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 9.8.9.8. I think that to experience the Spirit, one does not have to be with 'cliquey' people, nor always be loud, or else quieter people can get left behind. It can become The [Name of leader] Show in some places. There is work/service to do for our Lord, though the hymn conveys a sort of 'ending' and getting ready for bed theme! We can read of Jesus' healings, including some in the evenings.
