Pursuing The Promised Land

Tune: St Matthew

(slower tune to 'Thine arm, O Lord, in days of old')

Joshua Chapters 1 to 4 parts

******

Joshua, he the people led

After Moses was dead

Be strong, and of a good courage

Was to him the message

From the Lord, and to meditate

In His word, so be great

Would he be, learning, obeying

To promised land would bring

Would bring God's people, their journey

Long through wilderness, see

It had been, but they now on edge

Of God's promise and pledge

They would enter, they would agree

Joshua leader be

So forth they went, to river came

River Jordan its name

When feet of priest carrying Ark*

Brim of river did mark

It parted, and so on dry land

They passed, through God's good hand

Over the Jordan went safely

God their provider be

Then when feet of the priests left sure

River o'erflowed once more
