There Always is an Odd Sock, When Doing the Laundry

AuburnScribbler

Domestic gods, tend day to day,

to recount inventory,

using keys, to keep thieves at bay,

such desperate normality,

defrost the freezer, clean the glass,

to earn on those days off,

else they’ll feel like a dirty ass,

worthless by their trough,

fill the fridge, to stock the fuel,

of a proud fleshling robot,

to do the deeds both kind and cruel,

it should not be forgot,

they look upon the overflow,

the flood of filthy washing,

that still has the sweat of a need to go,

activities that were quashing,

just like the haze of human life,

the drum starts it’s spinning,

whilst a song is heard, from proud housewife,

a clichéd scene, she’s winning,

though when the cycle has finished its course,

there is a clear reminder,

thus, frustration is reinforced,

such pride is now behind her,

as when the goddess, unravels,

there has been a miscount,

in trivial errs, emotions travel,

a high horse, she dismounts,

a tiny little mock,

reinserts her mortal quandary,

there always is an odd sock,

when doing the laundry.

  • Comment from author about the poem: No matter how hard you try, there will always be some mistakes, and with this poem, detailing the small gripe of a proud domestic goddess, there is no exception. In fact, I'm sure you'll agree with me fellow writers, the amount of drafts, backspacing, deleting and editing you do, is to a high capacity. In fact in writing this little message alone, the backspacing, deleting and editing has been relentless. I suppose what I'm trying to say in this poem is that, there is too much pride nowadays, and certain aesthetically beautiful, and overtly high achieving people, need to be reminded of their imperfections, in order to regulate the poisons they so easily create, to make such a damaging toxic culture. The banner picture reminds me of the surface of marbled breakfast bars, that are most likely owned by such brash winners of life. I hope that you enjoy the poem, the most important thing is to enjoy being you, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

The odd sock is the bane of my life. I also spent the last 30 minutes backspacing, deleting and editing, and still haven't come up with a finished product, so it's out there somewhere with that sock. When something goes wrong in what we think is a perfect life it is a reality check, if we're wise. Unfortunately, in evades too many who claim perfection, when their flaws are on display. A very timely write my friend, we're going through this right now in our political forum, and it is very toxic. Kudos for your thoughts and voice!

Thanks for the read Bella, and bless you, your odd sock and the likewise editing.

I'm glad that you agree with the sentiments raised, and I wholeheartedly agree with your summary above. There really must be a concentrated effort to make things better.

Also, bless you Andy for your odd socks, I suppose in writing such a poem, I still have a somewhat OCD.

Thanks again to you both, and I hope that all is well.

I have two they have been on my drawers for a week now, what a wonderful write. Your metaphor is brilliant. Let's hope we all find our missing socks. 🤗

Yes we all make mistakes Ben and have to do things again but that is life and we just have to accept it.

Thanks for the read Andy, and I do agree with your statement, but when it comes to the more dangerous repeated mistakes, such as the voting ins of morally bankrupt governments, and the recycled calamities of misinterpretations of religion, to prolong certain wars, to satisfy base greed, our core operation, now, will always write and re-write a horrid normality. We have to be better than this, we have to choose to be better than this.

Thanks again and I hope that all is well.

I'm glad that you enjoy the concept, and title of the poem, and I'm also glad that you've got your customary "sock-dar" locked on.

I hope that all is well.
