Somewhere in their history
They were taught
That there is danger in a thought
That skepticism is a sin
You must never let that goblin in
And questions never solve a thing
Confusion the only thing they bring
It became so easy not to think
And so their brains began to shrink
They forfeited integrity
Then surrendered common decency
All for the sake of expediency
They closed their eyes
And bought the lies
Where reason did once abide
They took the word of those who lied
And in doing so
The conscience died

It's a very difficult thing
Thank you my friend, it is indeed a difficult world we live in these days.
Amen sister!!
Your words accurately capture the closed mindset of so many.
Thank you kind poet for your comment. I do wonder how we got here, and how we'll find our way back.
Questions are crucial, this world is so messed up like you were saying. Wonderful poem, nonetheless.
Thank you so much dear poet, questions are crucial lest we become part of the herd.
Unfortunately true. But we can each choose to be conscious....daily. As messed up as this world is, there's still good left!! Beautifully done Bella!!!🧡
Thank you dear Liz, your comment is truly appreciated. I think that our collective conscience is in tact, and that when we get through these challenging times we will be strong together.
So very true. Small minded ignorance is a danger to all. Bella, we are living in times that are truly dark. Lies on all sides. Beautiful rhyme and very clever. 🤗
Thank you my dearest Teddy! Just as we emerged from the dark ages into the age of enlightenment, I have high hopes that better minds will prevail to lead us into an age of acknowledgement, where we do not blindly follow. Group think is stifling, but if we can let go of the fear of nonconformy, and think for ourselves, knowledge can set us free. Take care my dearest friend!
Very good words Bella, people are being led astray by those in power, we need to think for ourselves and do our own thing.
Andy
Thank you dear Andy, your comment is spot on! Somewhere we gave up the right to think, and apathy set in. We can get it back, but it will take leaders of conscience. They're out there, and their time will come.
Well, we're governed here in the UK, some newspapers say, by clowns - Coco, Bozo, Dumbo, Thicko, Knobo (ooh!), etc. how much of it is true?! Doh!
Your clown car is very impressive Orchi. Here we just have Bozo and Ronald of McDonalds fame. It wouldn't be so bad, except they're not even entertaining any more, just sick. I say it's time for a clownectomy, and let the morons have a turn, couldn't be any worse, or maybe it could.
You are absolutely write Bella .. what may have once started off insidiously has now rocketed beyond all control and I fear there may be no stopping it .. Took the words right out of my mouth my friend .. Neville
Thank you dear Nev, so glad to share the words with you. Here's hoping for a Great Awakening, would be nice to be around to see it.
I agree. We must always question. Good poem.
Thank you my friend, to question is to learn. Take care!
I once worked with a grumpy old bugger (I were young then), whose analysis of the world, but particularly of those, many of whom inhabited it was "they're dead but they won't lie down"
I cannot but think I've inherited some of Old Joe's attitudes and characteristics...............
Good for you, Bella.
My dear Dave, so very good to hear from you! Thank you for being there and reading my poem. I don't know about attitude and characteristics, but I always value your opinions, if we don't have them we're just part of the herd. Take care my friend!
There is a motive to every crime and it is a crime to promote ignorance and censor thoughts. Power, money, fear, seem to be at the front and are quite evident today from government, to companies to individuals. A poignant and very important write Bella. Well done.
Thank you dear friend, you are always such an inspiration.
