New And Old

orchidee

Tune: Ach Got Und Herr

('Strengthen for service, Lord, the hands')

Luke 5 v.36-39

********

No one puts a piece of a new

Garment on old, does not sew

If they do, the new will make tear

More difficult to repair

And also piece that was taken

Out of new, not agrees then

With the old, and no one puts new

Wine in old skins, does not do

If they do, the new wine will burst

The old skins, not releive thrist

Wine shall be wasted, skins perish

And both be ruined, true this

But new wine must be put into

New skins, so shall be to you

That both wine and skins be preserved

Thes actions you have observed

No one having drunk old wine be

Quick to accept the new, see

For they say, The old is better

The new we postpone, defer

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7. I'm a miracle worker, don't ya know? I can turn wine into water, cos I keep adding water to the wine! Wasn't that miracle the other way round? heehee.

Mulled wine is in season... or does that still apply?

Thanks CB. Depends if it's old or new, I suppose. Or how old or new?
You got them wineskins?! They are called 'bottle's in some Bible versions.

Old wineskins and new wine don’t make good neighbours!

Are new wineskins and old wine any better?!

A great message that interestingly enough I had incorporated a piece of in my next poem without knowing that you had written this.
