The Dei Gratia was sailing,
Sailing in the Atlantic
When they saw a ship,
Saw a ship near the Azores.
It looked untidy,
Nobody could be seen on it
So a boat was sent,
And there on board
There was nobody.
All seemed in order,
No evidence of fighting,
All equipment was there,
Except the lifeboat!
But what had happened
Nobody knew,
And since that day
Fourth of December eighteen seventy two,
And even today
Still no one knows,
Nobody knows what happened.
The people who were on her
Have never been seen,
Those people who were on that ship,
Were on the Mary Celeste.

Hauntingly enticing childhood story of high adventure and human adversity. Still has its drawing power today, given new lease with your poem!
Thank you CB, much appreciated.

But weren't we on it, you and I, them years ago? We know what happened - are we telling? lol.
My version is that I came aboard, began to sing, and they all rushed for the lifeboat!
So where did you go, did you start playing your bagpipes as well and played "Far Far Away"

My thanks, Andy for reminding of a piece of history, a reference which if I mention draws nothing but blank stares....time marches on....
Thank you Dave, yes so very true people just do not know nowadays.
