Seeds And Soils

orchidee

Tune: St Stephen

('The Lord will come and not be slow')

Luke 8 v.11-15

********

The word of God is the seed sown

Various soils are known

Into which it falls, we cand see

What different kinds there be

They by the way side, they do hear

But no fruit does appear

For the devil comes, takes away

Word from their hearts alway

They on the rock are they which when

They hear the word, right then

They receive it with joy, but they

Have on power to stay

For they have no root, for a while

They believe, but when trial

Comes, they tempted and fall away

They do not watch and pray

And that which did among thorns fall

Did get choked with cares all

Riches, distractions, pleasures, so

Fruit does not fully grow

But that on good ground, they who be

Of honest, good heart, see

Have the word, keep it, good fruit bring

Forth, patient, e'erlasting

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.6.8.6. A little confusing maybe - the 'they's' in verses 2, 3, and 4, and then the 'that's' in verses 5 and 6. The seed is the word of God (verse 1), and we are the soil types. We are each usually one main type. Some of us may have combinations of two or more, or all, of the soil types. That's how I see it.
