Tune: Personent Hodie

('Long ago. prophets knew')

Luke 2 v.15-20

********

Shepherds came to Beth'lem

To see new-born babe then

They did hurry, make haste

Journey was not a waste

Of glories they did taste

Chorus

Saw the new-born child

family, meek, mild

Born a babe, yet a King

Let praises to Him ring

When they saw them, and there

Babe in a manger fair

They told them what angel

In the fields did them tell

Tidings of great joy well - Chorus

All they that herd wondered

At those things, undeterred

Mary kept them in heart

Pondered them on her part

Gracious words not depart - Chorus

And the shepherds returned

It was true, they had learned

They glorified and praised

God for all things, amazed

They had seen, on Christ gazed - Chorus

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem with verses in 6.6.6.6.6. and Chorus in 5.5.6.6. I could have called this 'Vision Verified' maybe. the shepherds saw a sort of vision, but real angels I believe.
