Crappy New Tear (A Reflective, on New Year's Eve, 2023)

AuburnScribbler

Another twelve months,
what have we learnt?
Nothing much,
as much has burnt,

as habits remain,
it's not our "nature",
it's human "design",
that is our feature,

that elects a clown,
to have the power,
we like the filth,
no need for shower,

we need such errors,
for conversation,
as change, is fear,
it's condemnation,

for places in line,
will sure be lost,
as true reshuffle,
is true cost,

deep down, we like,
an Eton mess,
we point our fingers,
but won't confess,

watching the horrors,
on TV screens,
mangled scriptures,
prolong the means,

both hate and love,
provided so,
such stale wars,
no need to grow,

a base hope stirs,
underneath,
our poor operation,
that makes our wreath,

in such a storm,
we have to alter,
to revalidate,
before the altar,

it would be nice,
to scrub bad joke,
that is retold,
by sleeping woke,

and to repair,
what we have shattered,
to believe,
what truly matters,

make better custodians,
of the Earth,
thus, a rightful choice
is to birth,

you may think me,
a naive brat,
but your experience,
lengthens the gap,

I know there can't
be a pause in machine,
but the cogs in motion,
remain unclean,

so, until such time,
no Happy New Year,
it's simply a case of,
Crappy New Tear!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Firstly, I hope you all had a lovely Chrimbo, if you celebrate it that is, and before the tornado of communicative good will occurs, I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year now. Also, as is my want and custom, this is the closure of my mini-pentology of seasonal poems: "Noel Notes" Though this reflective one, is yet again, a dismal "pouring of acid" over our species, I really do hope, that we can have a Happy New Year, and that the obvious damaging mistakes made in 2023, are learnt from in 2024. I hope that you take something from this poem, the last one of mine in 2023, but of course, not the last one ever, much to your joy or displeasure. As always, please do stay safe everyone, especially if you're venturing out tonight, as though we may be ringing in a New Year, the same old misguided bellends remain! šŸ¤˜šŸŽ‰šŸŽ†āœØšŸŽ‡šŸŽ‰šŸ¤˜

Some true words there Ben but in my life it has been a wonderful old year and I know it will be a great New Year.

Your words are loud and clear, Iā€™m afraid we forget even if we learn and yet I have hope for the new generation
