Born 2nd Jan.

Tom C Dylan

He would have been a hundred years old today.

my grandfather, the one they named me after,

the man who I played with as a child,

playing rough, the way that only grandad's do,

who made me the wooden cricket set,

who would fill our glasses with ice-cream and lemonade,

and white paper-bags crammed with sweets.

They say he filled a door-frame with his stature,

and that's where I get my height from.

I will raise a glass for him tonight.

Such an original piece, a dedication to a grandfather that seemed so precious, my grandad was also called Tom. Very nice to meet you.

Thanks a lot for your comments, Teddy. Cool that your grandad was also called Tom. I must admit I am proud to be named after my grandfather. It seems to be one of those names that is still around. Nice to meet you too. 🙂

I' don't post here regularly any more and most of my work these days is comical verse (or at least I hope it is) so I've only just cpome across your work. Well I have to say it is so refreshing - nothing complicated, not trying to be clever but written from the heart and each and every one is a joy to read. I'll certainly be returning to your work in the future and thanks for posting - keep doing so.

Thank you so much for your comments. I've always been more of a story writer, but am trying my hand at poetry, so your comments mean a lot. Really appreciated.
