A Pint To Remember.

Goldfinch60

Off we went to sing,

Even better off to the pub,

To the pub we went to sing,

Not just any songs but sea shanties.

I walked to the bar and ordered drinks,

What should I have?

The lady behind the bar helped

And I decided to have a pint,

A pint of mild.

That took me back,

Back to my younger days

When I drank mild every night,

Every night at my local.

She pulled the pint,

And even better

She poured it into a mug,

A pint mug with a handle.

Again this took me back

When mugs were the norm.

I had a sip and there I was

Back in the pub of my youth

Enjoying a good pint with friends,

Friends of many years ago.

Such wonderful times remembered

And all because of this lady,

This lady who served me a pint,

A pint of mild.

  • Comment from author about the poem: In my younger days I used to go up to my local every night, meet friends there and play darts and cards and the beer I drank was Courage mild. I hadn't had a pint o mild since those days so that pint I had yesterday took me back to some wonderful days and memories. And yes I am singing in a Sea Shanty group.

How gorgeous, it's a special feeling when we do something that reminds of us of days gone by. I came to London last year and had fish and chips in borough market, I can tell you I had a smile from ear to ear. 💜

took me back to those halcyon days of yore too sir Finch .. I used to have a taste for a pint or two of Courage's finest back in the day .. sadly, they don't seem to bother with mild these days down here .. thanks for taking me back to when they did .. Neville

Thanks Neville, you never seem to see mild anymore, it was a fine pint back then and it was a fine pint when I had this one.

Yes, it was wonderful, as no water in sight! Or was I working in the back room, secretly adding water to it?! lol.

        • Goldfinch60

No there was no water added to it Orchi.

Love it. Just perfectly captured. You can't beat a sea-shanty, and beer tastes so much better in a glass with a handle.

            Thank you Tom, so true.

In our minds these friends still exist just as they were. I have these flash backs all the time. Great write Andy.

Most interesting how small things can jog memories and evoke feelings from the past. Glass does that to me. Everything is served in plastic or styrofoam now days. Good write Gold
